A fészkedből kihajdásznak.
Rakjál fészket a sürübe,
Bánatfának tetejibe;
Aki kérdi: ezt ki rakta?
Mondjátok: egy árva rakta,
Kinek sem apja, sem anyja,
Sem egy igaz atyjafia.
Long ago I told you, mournful dove,
Not to build your nest on the roadside!
Many passersby walk on the road,
They will chase you from your nest.
Build your nest in the thicket,
On top of the tree of sorrow;
If someone asks: who built it?
Say: an orphan built it,
Who has no father, no mother,
Not a single true kinsman.
